Bio
Born and raised in Soviet Russia, Masha Gvozdov (http://mashagvozdov.carbonmade.com/) began drawing and painting, through influence of her artist father, at the age of one. Her early private art education continued through childhood in the Soviet Union and later in the United States, through her teens. Being intrigued by the fashion world, Masha submitted her drawings and won a fashion design scholarship to Marymount University in Virginia. She chose not to take it and instead set out to travel the world. After which she settled back home in Arlington Virginia and continued her art studies at NOVA Community College. From there she transferred to CCAC in San Francisco to further pursue her art education, majoring in painting and printmaking. Masha now resides in New York, where she works as a makeup artist for fashion, film, TV and theater. She also art directs music videos and fashion shoots, creates props and set designs, and has recently made her curatorial debut in NYC. Her personal work taps into her child-like sense of exploration and playfulness through the use of mixed media, elements of collage and papier-mache, as well as exploration with video portraits using a super 8 camera.
